Amadeus (theatre in german language)
by Kaja Dymnicki and Alexander Pschill
A little laugh track
Vienna has its new superstar! Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Emperor Joseph II has brought him from Salzburg to Vienna to compose an opera. Even though the court is extremely sceptical about the idea, the ingenious rascal Mozart and his Constanze escape their strict father and now compose side by side with conductor Antonio Salieri. And he is also very good. And very successful. And so far the emperor's favourite. But not a child prodigy. Next to the genius of Mozart, Salieri's hard-won fame quickly faded. And when diligence, faith and a well-behaved lifestyle - even chastity - are punished by God with mediocrity and you also recognise and even love the genius of your adversary, then you can get a taste for revenge ...
Peter Shaffer's play ‘Amadeus’ has enjoyed cult status not only since Miloš Forman's film adaptation, which won eight Oscars. Kaja Dymnicki and Alexander Pschill have turned it into a play full of slapstick and humanity. ‘What matters is the virtuosity with which the funniest people in Vienna organise a laugh fest together (...)’. We congratulate Julia Edtmeier on winning the Nestroy Prize 2024 in the category ‘Best Actress’ for her portrayal of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in this production!
