For Tommy Caldwell, the Dawn Wall is much more than a challenging climbing route. The wall is the culmination of all the hurdles he had to overcome in his life. At age 22, he was taken hostage by rebels on an expedition to Central Asia. Back in the US, he loses his forefinger in an accident shortly afterwards. He is said to never climb again, but Tommy practices more than ever and proves the opposite. When his marriage fails, he fights the pain with the extraordinary plan to climb the Dawn Wall free. On a tightrope between devotion and obsession, he tries to climb the route together with climbing partner Kevin Jorgeson. In the final attempt, Tommy faces the crucial question of continuing to cling to his dream or risking his own success to maintain his friendship with Kevin.
